A tourism boss has suggested that cross-country skiing could be the next sporting event to block off Glasgow's streets.

Paul Bush, director of events at Visit Scotland, claimed it is now "really easy" to make snow and the city's streets could be covered in the white stuff for the event.

In a bizarre interview with BBC Radio Scotland, he said he would like to see the summer and winter Olympics combined and suggested that Glasgow could host the mammoth tournament.

"We could do summer and winter Olympic sport in Glasgow," he said. "We could have cross-country skiing through the streets, snow is really easy to make now.

"From a spectator and viewing perspective that's really exciting.

"If people sat and thought about it for a few minutes, it's really not that daft."
