DISCOUNT retailer Savers have announced their opening date on Sauchiehall Street following the Victoria's Nightclub fire.

The shop will reopen on Friday, August 17 after being closed for three months.

Savers said: "Now that the building and interiors are secure, and health and safety checks have been fully completed, we are ecstatic to be able to serve the local community once again from next week.

"The new store has created great job opportunities in the local area, which have all currently been filled, with more vacancies possibly being available in the near future."

Savers was one of several traders forced to close on Sauchiehall Street in March following the fire.

At the height of the blaze, more than 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines were mobilised to the city centre to fight the fire.

A cordon was set up following the fire after the council said the building which housed Victoria's Nightclub was unsafe and would have to be pulled down by its owners.

The cordon has since been removed and businesses have been returning to normality with fast food giants McDonald's among those to resume trading.

Graham Johns, Savers Regional General Manager, said: “We are delighted to be reopening our Sauchiehall Street store. I’d like to thank all our loyal customers for their patience while we’ve been getting the store ready to reopen and we can’t wait to open our doors again!”
