SCOTLAND faces a danger to life warning as Storm Callum complete with heavy downpours arrives in the country tomorrow.
Winds of up to 80mph and up to four inches of rain are expected throughout the country on Friday and Saturday.
A yellow weather warning over wind has been put in place for western and northern areas of Scotland on Friday. While on Saturday there is a 'danger to life' alert over potential flooding due to rain covering Lothian and Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.
The Met Office said some delays were likely to road, rail, air and ferry transport and that short term loss of power was possible in the Friday alert which lasts till midnight.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges were likely.
Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities were likely to be affected by spray and/or large waves.
The forecasters 'danger to life' yellow warning on Saturday is for rain that could results in flooding to homes and businesses, causing damage to some buildings.
The Met Office said that "fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing danger to life". They also warn of potential power cuts, possible delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency issued five flood alerts for Friday in Argyll and Bute, Ayrshire and Arran, Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, Skye and Lochaber and Orkney.
SEPA said that high tides are expected to affect the area Argyll and Bute and Ayrshire and Arran and Skye and Lochaber in particular, due to "a storm surge and large waves" associated with the storm.
One of the greatest risks was expected on Friday at around 2:30am and again at 3:30pm in the Firth of Clyde and at around 8pm up towards Oban.
Police are warning Scots to be prepared when travelling in the adverse weather.
A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland is advising that conditions for travel in the areas mentioned above may be hazardous and extra caution should be exercised.
"If you are travelling you should ensure you and your vehicle are adequately prepared for the conditions making sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in the event you are delayed for several hours.
"Charge your mobile phone and plan your route as well as alternative routes."
The weather warning comes just weeks after Storm Ali battered the country, leaving 70,000 homes without power.
Several bridges were closed, buildings were damaged and most trains were cancelled.
