A SWANKY new Cantonese restaurant near Glasgow has opened its doors this week.

Bosses at the 1500 sq ft Shanghai Teahouse in Bothwell are aiming to bring authentic Chinese food to the neighbourhood straight from the Chinese city with menu developed by Asian-Scots celebrity chef Jimmy Lee.

Jimmy, from the well-known Lychee Oriental in Glasgow, spent months mentoring the kitchen team at Shanghai Teahouse to help expand their knowledge of oriental cooking and design a specific menu.

Blending traditional and contemporary Chinese culture, the 60-cover restaurant offers a range of vibrant dishes in an elegant setting.

The a la carte menu includes favourites such chargrilled chicken satay skewers and spare ribs in peking sauce, kung po chicken and traditional chinese curry, as well as specialities twice-cooked pork belly and steamed halibut fillets.

“The team here also aims to combine the best of hygiene, food sourcing, cooking techniques and service.”

The independent venue on Hamilton Road features an eye-catching dining room, as well as a spacious outside terrace and cocktail bar lounge.
