A baby girl has been flown to hospital in serious condition after a major house fire in Moray.

Around 45 firefighters were called to a home on Macdonald Drive in Lossiemouth at around 3.45am on Thursday.

Three people, including the 13-month-old girl, were initially taken to Dr Gray's hospital in Elgin.

The girl has since been flown to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where she remains in a serious condition.

Police have confirmed a 35-year-old man was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and a 31-year-old woman is expected to be taken there later today.

Occupants of a neighouring property were evacuated during the blaze, and the street is currently closed to allow access for emergency services.

Detective inspector Norman Stevenson said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage in establishing what caused the fire. A joint investigation by ourselves and the fire service is due to take place today, following a structural survey.

"The three occupants of the house are all in a serious condition and our thoughts are with them and their family at this time.

"MacDonald Drive between St Margarets Crescent and Rinnes Drive is currently closed to allow access for emergency services vehicles.

"The local community is thanked for their patience and understanding whilst we, and partner agencies, carry out our enquiries."

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We despatched three ambulance crews, two special operation response units and a paramedic practitioner to the scene and transported two patients – a male and a female in their 30s to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"An infant was also transported to Dr Gray’s Hospital before being airlifted to Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children."
