An appeal has been launched to help find the owner of a collection of old photographs dated back to the 1940s after they were found in a Glasgow department store.

The pictures were found in the city centre's John Lewis store in October last year, and police believe they will have 'significant sentimental value' to the owner.

The keepsakes are over 60 years old, the largest of which depicts a wedding party with "The Knightsbridge Photographic Bureau 245, Knightsbridge, S.W.7"; written on the back.

It also states that the picture is of "Effie's wedding", who is described as being the photographer's aunt who died in a London bombing in 1941.

The Herald:

"Uncle Harry" and "Aunt Annie" are also said to be present in the photograph.

Other smaller photos are captioned "Millport 1952", and shows groups of children called Moira, Grace, Helen, Rosemary, Janie and John.

The Herald:

Three girls are seen in swimming costumes with matching caps, and children can be seen walking the promenade of what appears to be Millport.

A police spokesman said: "Glasgow Police are hoping the public can assist with finding the owner of a collection of old photos which were found in John Lewis in October 2018.

"It is believed the photos will have significant sentimental value to the owner."
