Commuters are facing major disruption this evening due to a power failure in Edinburgh.

The fault means trains are currently unable to operate in or out of Edinburgh Waverley.

Network Rail Scotland confirmed it is “responding to a loss of power to the electricity supply in the Edinburgh area”.

ScotRail, LNER, Lumo and Cross Country trains have all been affected by the disruption.

ScotRail confirmed that all services are unable to operate in or out of Edinburgh Waverley until the fault is rectified.

The rail operator posted on social media: “Due to a failure of the electricity supply at Edinburgh, our services will be subject to delay and alteration at this time. Investigations are underway and we will provide another update ASAP.”

All ScotRail services from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level will terminate and start at Bathgate.

The disruption is expected to last until 11pm.
