Jewellery, cash and antique coins worth thousands of pounds have been stolen from a house.

The robbery took place in Duke Street, Denny, Falkirk, between 7.15pm and 9.35pm on Monday.

Police said entry was forced to the property and the homeowner is "absolutely devastated" at the theft.

Officers are working on a full inventory of the items taken, including "extremely valuable" coins from around the world.

Antique dealers are being asked to keep a look-out for such coins.

Detective Inspector Jim Thomson said: "The homeowner is absolutely devastated at the theft of his belongings including a large number of extremely valuable coins from various countries across the world.

"It is likely those responsible will look to sell these coins on and I would ask specialist dealers and second-hand retailers to be vigilant for anyone offering such items in the near future. If you have any suspicions then please contact police immediately.

"I would also urge anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in Duke Street on Monday evening, or who has information relevant to this inquiry, to also get in touch."
