Police have confirmed that a firearm was used during a large scale disturbance at a Castlemilk play park.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident which resulted in six men being hospitalised.
The disturbance which started on Saturday, July 8 at around 8pm, involved two groups of men from the local area.
However, it resulted in six men sustaining various injuries consistent with a variety of weapons having been used.
Four of the men have since been released from hospital whilst a 23-year-old man remains in a critical condition within hospital and a 25-year-old in a serious condition.
Two of the men injured have injuries consistent with a firearm having been used.
Police do not believe that this particular incident is linked to any other incidents that have occurred in the Glasgow area over the last few months or any other ongoing police investigations.
There is also nothing at this time to suggest that the incident is racially motivated.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Fergus at Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team (West) said: "I understand that local people in the area are very concerned about this level of violence taking place in broad day light on their streets and I'd like to reassure them that we are doing everything that we can to track down everyone involved in this incident - many people would have seen what happened and we ask that they come forward and support us in our investigation.
"We will have extra patrols in the area for the foreseeable future and we would encourage the public to come forward and speak to these officers with any information they have or indeed any concerns they have."
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Helen Street Police Station via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 3874 of 8 July.
Alternatively calls can be made via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
