LABOUR MP Frank Field has accused Sir Philip Green of making “empty threats” towards him after the retail tycoon’s lawyers called for an apology from the politician.

The former owner of collapsed retail giant BHS accused Mr Field of giving a “disgraceful” radio interview in which he said he had new information about the tycoon’s £363 million pensions settlement for staff.

Sir Philip wrote to the Birkenhead MP: “You seem intent on continuing your personal and bitter attacks on me, making allegations, in my view, wholly without substance.Referring to a letter he received , Mr Field said: “It’s five pages of empty threats. It says I have to apologise. I have nothing to apologise for.”

The chairman of the Commons Work and Pensions Committee, said the letter put BHS back into the spotlight.
