POLICE are investigating allegations of two separate hate crimes at an East Renfrewshire secondary school.

It is understood police were called after anti-Semitic abuse was written on a wall at Mearns Castle High School, in the upmarket Glasgow suburb of Newton Mearns.

An East Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “We are aware of two incidents at Mearns Castle High, which continue to be investigated by the school and Police Scotland. Appropriate action has already been taken by the school.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed officers were investigating two separate hate crime incidents at the school on Monday 30th April and Tuesday 8th May. She said: "Our enquires are continuing."

Calderwood Lodge, Scotland's only Jewish primary school, is a feeder school for Mearns Castle, which regularly comes top of the exam league tables.
