Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon declared his admiration for Nicola Sturgeon at his band's SSE Hydro gig last night - but he was met by some boos.

The New Romantics star spoke about Scotland's First Minister during the show and dedicated their hit Ordinary World to her - after she declared the track a favourite on Radio 4 Desert Island Discs.

He said: "I think she deserves a big hand and a big cheer actually," as he was met with boos by some of the crowd.

He added: "Whatever you think of her politics, she's got intergity. You can't take that away.

"Anyway, it turns out that Ordinary World was one of her favourite Desert Island Discs. It further transpires that Ms Sturgeon used to come down to Barrowlands to see Duran Duran.

"What a great place that is.

"You see Scotland's First Minister is starting to turn me into a bit of a Nicola Sturgeon fan."

Earlier this year the First Minister told of her 80s pop allegiance during a campaign visit to Barrowlands Park where the names and dates of every show at the famous venue are listed on a path.

She told photographers the last Barras gig she was at was by the Girls on Film and Rio pop superstars in 1993.

Ms Sturgeon walked up and down the path looking for the entry and was about to give up when she noted they were not listed in chronological order.

Then she found it and pointed and said “There it is, Duran Duran, 1993.”

Ms Sturgeon was then asked who her favourite of the five-piece band was.

Dismissing the frontman Simon le Bon and girls’ favourite, guitarist John Taylor, she said her favourite was drummer Roger Taylor.
