A PENSIONER has appealed for help to find her late mother’s wedding dress after it was lost in the post.

Lorna Aspey, 70, from Kinross, sold the treasured possession on eBay for £400 in July, but after the buyer decided to return the dress, it did not made its way back to her.

Now the grandmother of five is making a desperate appeal to find the dress – in time for her 71st birthday.

The dress belonged to Mrs Aspey’s mother, Jerry, who wore it on her wedding day in May 1944.

Mrs Aspey kept the dress and hoped to wear it on her special day – but she was too tall.

It was the death of Mrs Aspey’s own children that prompted her to sell the dress.

She lost her youngest child, Damian, to cancer when he was 32 and her second youngest, Mark, to suicide when he was 43.

Mrs Aspey put the dress for sale on online auction site eBay.

But the buyer decided they didn’t like it and returned it in the post.

It was last seen at London Central Mail Centre on July 19, but hasn’t been delivered to Mrs Aspey.

She said: “Now the dress is lost and I feel like I’ve failed my mum. I can’t even look at her picture any more because I feel so guilty.

“I hope someone can help me get it back.”

Royal Mail has apologised to Mrs Aspey for the loss of her dress.

A spokeswoman said: “We deliver millions of items of mail every day and the vast majority arrive at the correct destination quickly and efficiently. However, we are not complacent about these matters as every item of mail is important to us.

“Although it won’t cover the sentimental value of the item, we have offered Ms Aspey additional compensation for her to give to a charity of her choice.”
