POLICE have launched an investigation after a teacher was shot with a pellet gun inside a school.

Officers said no-one was injured in the incident, which happened on Monday at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh, and that their inquiries are ongoing.

Education officials said that disciplinary action against those involved after their own investigation.

Stella Kinloch, Chairwoman of the Hermitage Academy Parent Council, said that the shooting was an "isolated incident."

She said: "The school have reassured the Parent Council the matter is being fully investigated by the School who are taking the appropriate action and Police Scotland has been informed.

"The Parent Council will continue to work with the school and the parent forum to highlight where improving standards of pupil behaviour is clearly necessary.

She added: "The Parent Council fully support the school in engaging any additional measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and pupils attending Hermitage Academy."

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council said: “An incident took place in the school on Monday. We have thoroughly investigated this and the school has taken the appropriate disciplinary action against those involved.

"We have hard working staff and pupils who are together achieving often award winning success. Their wellbeing is paramount and we take any action required to ensure this.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that police were made aware of an incident involving a BB gun being discharged at a teacher within a school in Helensburgh on Monday 24th April.

“The teacher was not seriously injured and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
