STARS of Still Game have started filming the eighth season.

The BBC released a picture of the first day of shooting today after Greg Hemphill revealed last week that it was imminent.

The actor, who plays Victor McDade on Still Game, took to social media to inform fans.

He also confirmed that last month that the scripts for the show's new series had been written.

He joked: "We start filming the new series of Still Game on a Monday.

"If you see us out and about, shout 'two pints p***k!' at us."

The show returned to the BBC last year after the success of a live run of 21 shows at the SSE Hydro.

A premiere was held in Glasgow with hundreds of fans attending to see the first episode of a nine year hiatus.

BBC Scotland said they received over 25,000 applications for tickets to the event proving that public demand for Still Game is still as high as ever.

Ford Kiernan, who writes the show and plays Jack, previously said: "Everybody was desperate to get back."

He also dismissed the idea of a Still Game movie. He said: "It's a difficult area, films. It's a big worry and you don't want to get it wrong.

"Films are getting quiet, Netflix are what people are using."

Last year, the cast were spotted filming around the city.

Season eight is expected to air at some point this year.
