GLASGOW Curry King Charan Gill suffered a heart attack limbering up for a trekking holiday with his son to India.

The 62-year-old, who was the tycoon behind the Ashoka curry house chain, believed he was the picture of health.

But when he was awakened by indigestion in the last fortnight, he drank a glass of water and went back to sleep. The following day, Mr Gill decided to seek medical advice for his symptoms and discovered he had suffered a heart attack.

He said: “The classical symptoms you are expecting from a heart attack were not there.

“I had been told to watch out for sweat, pain in the jaw and maybe my left arm and also pain in the chest.

“None of that was there. When I woke up eventually about 10am, I felt remarkably well.”

Mr Gill drove himself to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital believing medical staff would just take a few blood samples and send him home.

He added: “Of course if you say they you have had some tightness in the chest, they don’t keep you waiting long.”

After a series of tests, cardiologists told Mr Gill he had suffered a mini heart attack.

He said: “That was the first I heard of it and I thought I was perfect.”

Mr Gill was in hospital for five days until he was allowed home. Asked about the hospital food, he said it was very good “although I do have to confess I did get some takeaways”.
