AN 88-year-old woman has returned the casket that marked her grandfather’s Freedom of Glasgow – after it was locked forgotten in a vault.

Sir Hugh Reid was the chief managing director of the North British Locomotive Company which exported trains globally.

He was awarded the Freedom of the City in 1917, which came with the ornate silver gilt casket.

Joan Quinn, from Ireland, presented the box at the Riverside Museum. She said: “It’s nice to bring it back. It was found in the family vault in a Glasgow solicitors.”
