EDINBURGH-headquartered law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has continued to rebuild its Aberdeen office with the addition of a partner from local practice Stronachs.

Rural law specialist Hamish Lean, who comes on board along with senior associate Emma Robertson and solicitor Alex Smith, becomes the fourth partner in Shepherd and Wedderburn’s north-east base, which originally launched in the mid-2000s but was mothballed in 2011.

The firm marked its re-entry into the Granite City a year ago with the hire of Pinsent Masons corporate partner John Rutherford as office head.

It followed this up with the appointment of the former senior partner of shipping practice Mackinnons, Charles Scott, and the addition of local firm Commercial Law Practice.

Shepherd and Wedderburn chief executive Stephen Gibb said the latest hires “open a new chapter for the firm in the north east”.

“These hires mean that Shepherd and Wedderburn is both technically and geographically equipped to support our rural and private clients right across Scotland,” he added.

Mr Lean, who spent almost eight years as a partner at Stronachs and led the firm’s agricultural and rural business and onshore renewable teams, has a particular specialism in agricultural tenancy law.

He said: “The comprehensive firm-wide support and resources of Shepherd and Wedderburn will undoubtedly better equip Emma, Alex and myself to help clients meet the tough and challenging times ahead.”

Shepherd and Wedderburn is not the only law firm to have put Aberdeen in its sights, with Anderson Strathern also looking to enter the local market.
