Two young men died and six others were injured after using their personal toboggan to go down a luge-bobsleigh track after hours at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Calgary police said emergency crews received a call from an employee at the WinSport Canada facility in north-west Calgary at 1.30am local time after a report of several injured people on a closed track.

Inspector Kelly Campbell said that part way down the track the male teenagers hit a large gate that is used to separate the luge and bobsleigh tracks.

Police are investigating how they entered the property.

WinSport Canada owns and operates Canada Olympic Park, which hosted events during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Several World Cup events are held at the site as well.
