I NOTE that since DVLA abolished the paper tax disc with a view to saving £10 million per year that evasion has jumped from 0.6 per cent to 1.8 per cent, costing the Treasury more than £100m per year (“Clampers target capital motorists in crackdown on untaxed vehicles", The Herald, November 13). The total losses thus far must equate to more than £250m.

What you don’t read anywhere is what has happened to the jokers who thought up this daft scheme. Any other leader of business who lost this kind of money would be out of a job in double-quick time. Not to mention the government minister who was in charge at the time.

I think the Government owes the taxpayer an explanation on what actions have been taken with the culprits of this debacle. And maybe even a wee apology is in order.
