THANK you for showing the speedway crash sequence ("Lucky escape for Kennedy", Herald Sport, July 16).

I have watched, with not a little annoyance, some of the award-winning antics from a number of World Cup footballers as they threw themselves acrobatically to the ground, pretending to have sustained almost life threatening injuries. On Saturday night I watched, with genuine horror, as Zaine Kennedy, a young Australian speedway rider, flew over the safety fence during heat 18 of the World Under-21 Championship at Ashfield Stadium. It is not the first time that I have witnessed such a dramatic occurrence at the stadium. However, unlike some of today's footballers, Zaine and the other riders, who likewise disappeared over the fence, just dusted themselves down and accepted the incident as part and parcel of racing a speedway bike.
