DOUGLAS Marr ("Older generation could have most fear from Brexit", The Herald, July 14) puts the ball past the post with his swipe at the wearing of traditional black football boots. By beating England, the Auld Enemy, 2-1 at the West of Scotland Cricket Ground in 1874 we became World Champions, wearing black boots.

I caution however against the reintroduction of the original said boots as handling a pair in the Hampden Football Museum seemingly requires heavy lifting equipment, nevertheless the requirement of Scotland players to wear black boots will lead to certain qualification. Black boots, a new campaign and in readiness I humbly suggest the SFA move the national stadium forthwith to The West of Scotland Cricket Ground, the home of international world football. Football is coming home, what can go wrong?
