I READ the article by Pinstripe suggesting closure of Prestwick Airport to save £8.6 million per year with disbelief ("Time for a reality check ... Prestwick Airport must go", Herald Business, August 13).

In the same edition of your paper you quote the cost of £91 million in public expenditure to bring a share of the European Games to Glasgow, a great success ("Wet, wet, wet… but games success leaves Glasgow singin’ in the rain", The Herald, August 13).

Your correspondent mentions passing the airport. I presume that he drove through Prestwick, no closed shops here, just a thriving town, particularly when compared to nearby Irvine and Kilmarnock.

This is the benefit of a high-wage local economy created by the aerospace industry at Prestwick.

The airport hub is more than an underused terminal. You need a runway, support services, cargo and military usage.

Prestwick is one of Scotland`s success stories. I am afraid Pinstripe has to think outside the box.
