ON Monday evening (September 17) the Largs Channel and the North Ayrshire coast were buffeted with southerly winds in excess of 40 knots. I checked the local BBC weather app for Largs and strongest winds forecast for the immediate area were 14 knots. Neither were any be-aware warnings displayed.

I then called the Met Office and asked them about this anomaly and they advised that the wind speeds forecasted on their website were steady 30 gusting to 45 knots in the local area of KA30 for this evening. I mentioned the BBC app information and they confirmed that they no longer supplied the BBC with forecast information.

This is surely a failure by a public broadcasting service to provide the most reliable and robust information to the general public at large, especially when there is a potential risk to people and property.

I hope the BBC takes note.
