AS TV licence payers, we in Scotland are continually being short-changed by the British Broadcasting Corporation. On Friday evening a football match between Haringey Borough and Wimbledon AFC was broadcast live on BBC2 across the UK network. I would be interested to know how many viewers north of Hadrian’s wall actually tuned in to watch this footballing extravaganza? I also wonder what the reaction would be south of the Border if, for example, a football match between say Stranraer FC and Cove Rangers were to be broadcast throughout Britain on a prime-time Friday evening? Indignation no doubt and quite rightly so.

We are also continually subjected to international football matches involving the England Ladies team with constant references from commentators that the "Lionesses" are practically unbeatable, whilst our own magnificent ladies team (who recently qualified for next year’s World Cup) is either ignored or "relegated" to BBC Alba.

As our Scottish Secretary, David Mundell, likes to remind us that Scotland is a part of the UK and not a partner, it is safe to assume that England is also a part of the UK and not a partner. Is it too much to ask the BBC to provide programmes, particularly of a sporting nature, that are relevant to each of the constituent parts or is there a more sinister agenda at play here?

I’m not holding my breath, but I am certain that as the English cup progresses, we will be subjected to more of this excoriating dross in the weeks and months ahead.
