I READ the letters from Owen Kelly and the Rev John Nugent (November 23) on Donald Trump with some fascination.

First, let me state that I suspect that it is very difficult to find a politician who actually has a moral compass. We don't have to look beyond our own shore to find a long list of politicians willing to authorise immoral acts directed towards other countries solely to benefit the UK in one form or another. I and most right-thinking people do not believe that the murder of Jamal Khashoggi could have taken place without authorisation from above.

However whether it is Tony Blair taking us into an illegal war or Theresa May ignoring Matthew Hedges' plight in the UAE or indeed President Trump defending the Saudi Crown Prince, the one driving force for them all is money and resultant political gain for themselves.

Yet when we actually look at the state of the United States and the world in general we see a more positive picture. The FBI recently announced that the crime rate in the US is at its lowest level since the presidency of Lyndon B Johnson. On the international front Mr Trump has succeeded in bringing North Korea to the negotiating table with the aim of denuclearising the Korean Peninsula. Observers also suggest that the world is currently at the most peaceful it has been for a generation, though undoubtedly Yemen is an unacceptable humanitarian disaster.

I would suggest that before judging President Trump on a single issue it is only logical to consider all the facts.
