THE woes pile up for Abellio ScotRail (ASR). So where does blame lie for what’s turning out to be the worst-ever rail service in the 150-year history of passenger rail travel in Scotland?

Late delivery of new or refurbished trains? The tiniest of sympathy for ASR.

Blaming rail unions? ASR at fault.

Shortage of staff? Where lies ASR planning these last 18 months?

Promises of a better rail tomorrow? ASR takes first prize.

Services constantly cancelled? What about us poor passengers?

ASR responds that train arrival times have improved ... yes, and by a less than almighty 0.8 per cent.

And all this from a company that constantly stated: “We’re building the best railway that Scotland’s ever had.”

I can’t be the only one who’s noticed that this hackneyed cliché has suddenly disappeared.
