JOHN Connor (Letters, March 20) proposes that “working-class people” should not be required to pay for a TV licence. How then does he propose that the BBC should be funded: from general taxation or by subscription? If the former, would the BBC still be seen to be independent of government. If the latter, the BBC’s mission to inform, educate and entertain would, I fear, be greatly diminished in its reach.
