BOB Starrett (Letters, July 24) writes condemning the speed with which cyclists travel along Sauchiehall Street, a route designated for shared use by both pedestrians and cyclists. Once again we have a letter where a writer points out the potential dangers that cyclists pose to pedestrians; once again no one writes with an example of where a cyclist has actually collided with a pedestrian.

If Mr Starrett wants to get concerned about accidents, he could write letters to the papers about the thousands of actual accidents that occur each year in Glasgow alone, in which motor vehicles collide with other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. Being concerned about a minor perceived risk in a shared pedestrian/cycle area is all very well, but the reality is that it is motor vehicles that cause the vast majority of accidents in our cities.

Let’s keep unnecessary vehicles out of our busy city centres, let's enforce slower speed limits across all of our cities.
