IN your “On this Day” feature (February 8) it is noted that in 1965, some 53 years ago, the Government banned television advertising of cigarettes. Is it not time that a similar ban was brought in for betting? Betting endorses football leagues and clubs and is seen so frequently on television, often with incentives that would be prohibited for other goods, that it would appear that betting has an insidious grip on the population and perhaps our politicians.
