I WISH Thelma Edwards many happy winters, not too snowy, with her new Siku 1898 winter service truck and snowplough so thoughtfully gifted by her family for Mothering Sunday (Letters, March 17).

My own experience of Father’s Day (family please note, always the third Sunday in June), has been more emotionally ambivalent, with a card reading “You made me the person I am today. How the hell can you sleep at night?”

It’s the thought that counts. But chocs would be nice.
