Stuart Hogg: Had possibly his best defensive performance for Scotland, twice stopping apparently simple tries with excellent cover tackles. Opened the scoring with a long-range penalty. 8 out of 10
Tommy Seymour: Had to wait patiently to get involved, but took his try-scoring chance well when it came to give Scotland the bonus point they were looking for. 7
Huw Jones: The centre was first to get a half-break against the Italian line, but when he did it a second time he fell and injured himself, and was replaced by Matt Scott. 6
Alex Dunbar: Back to his usual solid self in defence, he was also a more than useful link in attack. 7
Tim Visser: Like Seymour, spent a long time waiting for the action to come his way, and at times moved into midfield in search of more involvement. Took his chance well for the third try. 7
Finn Russell: Finished off Scotland’s first try well, slipping between two defenders on the left, and was far more assured after a distracted display at Twickenham. 8
Ali Price: Enhanced his reputation with some fine work behind the pack and is now established as the second-choice scrum-half behind Greig Laidlaw. 7
Gordon Reid: Fought well in the scrum and helped force the Italians into two front-row changes for the start of the second half. 7
Ross Ford: Restored to the starting line-up in the only voluntary change from the England game, the hooker had a big part to play in forcing the Italians on to the back foot. 7
Zander Fagerson: Played confidently in the loose as well as the tight, and got on top of his opposite numbers in the scrum. 8
Grant Gilchrist: Drafted straight into the team in place of the injured Richie Gray, the Edinburgh lock fitted in well and looked lively going forward. 7
Jonny Gray: Stole lineout ball, took the game to Italy and was generally far closer to his best after being very quiet against England. Gave away a soft penalty by obstructing Sergio Parisse but was otherwise first-rate. 7
John Barclay: The captain was yellow-carded after a string of offences by Scotland early in the second half, but came back on to play his part in a commanding finish. 6
Hamish Watson: Another dynamic display from the openside flanker, who is now operates at a high level of consistency. 8
Ryan Wilson: The No 8 was injured in a collision in the opening minutes, but recovered to play on into the second half. 6
Matt Scott: On for Jones in the 27th minute, he claimed an opportunistic try.
Cornell du Preez: Replaced Wilson with half an hour to play and was solid going forward.
Henry Pyrgos: Took over from Price with 25 mins to play.
Allan Dell: a 56th-minute substitute for Reid
Tim Swinson: replaced Gilchrist after 57 mins.
Fraser Brown: on for last quarter of an hour in place of Ford
Simon Berghan: got the last 15 minutes in place of Fagerson.
Duncan Weir: took over from Scott for last six minutes.
