MYRA PERKINS Perkins began her quest to earn a hammer berth at next year’s Commonwealth Games with victory at the Allan Bertram Memorial in Loughborough.

The 25-year-old, who came 12th at Glasgow 2014, threw 61.46 metres – her best effort in almost three years – to finish more than a metre clear of fellow Scot Sue McKelvie in second.

But, with tougher qualification standards than before, both face a fight to oust Great Britain international Rachel Hunter from the top of the Scottish rankings.

GB cap Chris Shorthouse won the men’s event with former Scottish champion Andy Frost third.

Elsewhere, Leicestershire-based David Limmer claimed victory in the Kilomathon in Edinburgh in 44 mins 58 secs. Dianne Lauder of Gala Harriers took the women’s title in a course record of 48:25.
