Celtic face Rangers at Hampden on Sunday for the right to play either Aberdeen or Hibernian in the final of this year's William Hill Scottish Cup.

The rampant Hoops are trying to take another step towards completing a domestic clean sweep with victory over Pedro Caixinha's Rangers - but they will have to rewrite 92 years of semi-final heartache against their bitter rivals to do so.

Here, Press Association Sport's Andy Newport looks at five classic Scottish Cup last-four clashes between Glasgow's biggest clubs.

CELTIC 5 RANGERS 0 - March 21, 1925

Rangers were in the midst of a 25-year barren spell in the cup when they faced their old foes in front of a then record Hampden crowd. But Jimmy McGrory heaped fresh misery on the Light Blues as his hat-trick eased Celtic to victory. However, this remains the Hoops' last Scottish Cup semi-final win over Rangers.

RANGERS 4 CELTIC 1 (replay) - April 6, 1960

Scot Symon's Rangers line-up would go on to lose out to Eintracht Frankfurt for the right to face Real Madrid in the European Cup final later that month but they proved too strong against their city neighbours, with doubles from Jimmy Millar and Davie Wilson sealing Rangers' comfortable win.

RANGERS 1 CELTIC 0 - March 31, 1992

Celtic were handed the initiative just six minutes in when Gers left-back Davie Robertson received a sensational early red card for a crude body check that left Hoops winger Joe Miller nursing two broken ribs. But they could not make their numerical advantage count and Walter Smith's side snatched victory thanks to Ally McCoist's winner on the stroke of half-time.

RANGERS 2 CELTIC 1 - April 7, 1996

Rangers were well on their way to a ninth straight league title when they met Celtic at Hampden. A star-studded line up that included Paul Gascoigne overcame Tommy Burns' team thanks to goals from two more of the Light Blues' big names, McCoist and Brian Laudrup.

CELTIC 1 RANGERS 2 - April 5, 1998

Once again McCoist turned out to be the hero for Smith's men at 'neutral' Parkhead. With Hampden being renovated, Celtic won the right to stage the match on the toss of a coin but the familiar surroundings could not inspire them to victory, with Rangers' veteran frontman McCoist heading home the opener before Jorg Albertz wrapped up the victory late on.

RANGERS 2 CELTIC 2 (Rangers win 5-4 on penalties) - April 17, 2016

Ronny Deila's Hoops were expected to crush a Rangers team still battling their way back to the top flight following the club's liquidation. But a thrilling Hampden clash ended all-square after goals from Rangers' Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay were cancelled out by Erik Sviatchenko and Tom Rogic. The Old Firm's first ever penalty shoot-out battle was then decided when Rogic ballooned his sudden-death effort, to the delight of Mark Warburton's team.
