Celtic are on the verge of breaking their club record transfer fee as they prepare to announce the signing of Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal.

A fee was agreed between PSG and Celtic yesterday afternoon and it is expected that the fee, when complete with add-ons and bonuses will amount to just more than £9m for the 20-year-old striker. It is the biggest outlay on a player from Celtic since the arrival of John Hartson in 2001; the Welshman arriving at the club 17 years ago on a £6m deal from Coventry.

Edouard netted 11 goals in 29 appearances for Celtic in his season long loan deal last term and Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, had been vocal about his wish to retain the services of the player on a permanent contract.

It is expected that the Parkhead club will formally announce the deal for Edouard in the next 24 hours.

A long-term contract of four years with an option for a fifth is anticipated for the highly-rated striker who will become the first summer signing for Rodgers' side.

PSG are in need of raising immediate funds after being told by UEFA's financial fair play body that they have until the end of this month to balance their books or face sanctions for their overspending last season. The Parisians needs to bring in £53m to satisfy the FFP that they are within the parameters of the rules.
