ODSONNE Edouard says his only focus this season is to make football history by scoring the goals which will win Celtic a third successive treble.
The 20-year-old Frenchman, signed from Paris Saint Germain for a club record £9 million this summer, has started this campaign in sparkling form having quickly forged a strong understanding with Moussa Dembele.
Edouard has been tipped for all manner of personal achievements but he wants to play a big part in a domestic clean sweep with Celtic, which he was denied last season because of injury.
"My main objective for the season is to win the three trophies, like we did last season. I don’t think of anything else at the moment. I am a still a young player and that means every year I will learn a lot. Hopefully I will improve a lot.
“Now that I have made it into the team, it’s important to keep that place in the side so that I can help the club.
“We as players enjoy the performances and take a lot of pleasure in playing a good game.
“The coach has already set us a style and a strategy. We respect that strategy, and the plans from the manager. For me it’s all about helping with goals and helping by defending well. I really enjoy the football here."
Edouard is in the form of his young life and admitted he has never felt better in himself and in terms of his strike partnership with Dembele.
"At the beginning of the season I really prepared very well physically. I know it’s important to be really fit to be able to have good performance individually and as a team," he said. “I worked during the holidays and also in the pre-season I have had a good preparation.
“If I’m looking physically well it means that everyone in the squad is also in great condition and that’s important.
"I have a very good relationship with Moussa. We understand each other very well outside football, but also on the field. I think that’s very important for the team. Of course it helps to have a good friendship with him.
“It’s the same with every player on the pitch. I have a good relationship with them all and that always helps."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
