STEVEN GERRARD hopes Rangers can replicate their Rugby Park performance when Kilmarnock visit Ibrox tonight.
The Light Blues were 3-1 winners over Steve Clarke’s side in August as they clinched a Betfred Cup victory.
Alfredo Morelos hit a hat-trick in Ayrshire as Killie replied with a Borna Barisic own goal.
And Gerrard is expecting another tough test as the Gers return to Premiership duty this evening following their Hampden defeat to Aberdeen.
He said: “Steve always has his teams well organised and he will have them well drilled.
“He will obviously have our weekend performance and result in his head and it might affect what he tries to do.
“He will want us to start slow, he will want the crowd at Ibrox to get frustrated at the players and he will want to stay in the game for as long as he can to frustrate us.
“We have to counter that by starting well, starting quick and really getting after Kilmarnock and play on the front foot, because we have had a lot of joy and success by doing that.
“That [game at Rugby Park] was really good. Alfredo was on fire and he had too much for Kilmarnock on the day.
“He got a lot of back up in and around him with some really strong performances.
“Scott Arfield was magnificent between the lines that day. He is back now and will help us with that quality we were lacking at the weekend.
“So we will have a good team [tonight].
“And we are hoping to keep this run going at home because we have made Ibrox a difficult place to come.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
