Edinburgh’s Argentinian centre Juan Pablo Socino has tipped his compatriots to feed off an emotional build up to Saturday’s Test match and claim a victory over Scotland.

The tourists have been rocked by news of the death of 23-year-old Sofia Pozzi, the partner of second row forward Marcos Kremer who has consequently returned home, but Socino believes his colleagues will want to pay tribute with this weekend’s performance.

“I think Argentina should win. They have got a big point to prove, as well. They have played some really good rugby so far in the autumn, although results haven’t gone their way,” he said. “They will be frustrated, but there are also some things going on in camp. Marcos Kremer went back home while the team was in Ireland and she passed away on Monday, so it’s a big blow to the team. That, on the back of bad results, is going to bring the team together and make them want to show their best.”

Socino is meanwhile hoping for his own chance to catch the eye of the Pumas selectors when Edinburgh face the Dragons in the Pro14 the following day.

“Last time I played for Argentina was out of the blue. I wasn’t expecting it, so I can only focus on what I’m doing here, being happy here and trying to perform and help the team do well,” he said.“This weekend coming I just want to play as well as I can and put in a good performance to show what I can do. They took me to the last World Cup so I can only focus on that.”
