THE short journey from the Dens Park media room to the front door takes you through two lounges where fans can enjoy a posh day out at the game, writes Neil Cameron.

On Sunday night, there were more than a few hangers on. Nobody wanted to rush away, not after their ten-man team held on for a draw against Rangers, a result which for the first time this season took them off the bottom of the Premiership.

At last, the mood on Tayside, at least the dark blue half, is one of quiet optimism.

Dundee have now gone four games without a defeat, they actually look like a team, there is some confidence in the players and St Mirren, now 12th, have none of those things.

“You can definitely see there is spirit there,” so said defender Andrew Boyle who was excellent on Sunday.

“As a group, we are all together. At training and around the place it is always bubbly.

“We always train well and obviously the results have come of late which makes it all the better.

“Since the new manager has come in, he has us right at it in training every day. We are working hard and I think it was evident against Rangers that we didn’t tire too much and played right through to the 93rd minute.

“It is a massive thing for us now to be off the bottom of the table but as the manager said to us, it is only a start and we want to kick on now.

“We are well aware that we have tough games coming up before the break but they are matches we can now relish.”

Kenny Miller helps. At almost 39 he has scored in the last four games. He has scored six in the last four games which has right grabbed headlines but this has been a team effort.

Dundee defended bravely and intelligently against Rangers and that, Boyle hoped, sets them up for better times.

“We are four games unbeaten now and have picked up good results along the way,” he said. We have some good games to look forward to, ones we hope we can win on the back of the recent results.”
