VAKOUN Issouf Bayo started for Celtic Reserves today but it was fellow forwards Jack Aitchison and Armstrong Oko-Flex who stole the show as the second-string Hoops overcame Falkirk 4-1.
The Ivory Coast striker, signed from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda for £2m during the January transfer window, played for 62 minutes in the Reserve League match at Cappielow.
Bayo, wearing the No.9 shirt, had a number of opportunities to score. He brought a couple of fine saves from Falkirk goalkeeper Leo Fasan, one from an instinctive volley, and also sclaffed an effort wide in the first-half and fired over from close-range after the interval.
Bayo was denied a first-team debut against Hibernian last week when Emilio Izaguirre’s injury thwarted his planned introduction from the bench.
Scott Allan, who will join Hibs in the summer, and forgotten-man Marvin Compper both played the 90 minutes for Celtic Reserves today.
The Bairns opened the scoring through Shayne Lavery but substitute Aitchison equalised on the stroke of half-time. Oko-Flex curled Celtic ahead shortly after the interval before Aitchison drilled home his second. Former Arsenal youth player Oko-Flex wrapped up the scoring from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Aitchison was tripped in the box. The win puts Celtic second in the Reserve League table, three points behind Rangers. Celtic have two games in hand.
