IAN DURRANT hopes the return of Alfredo Morelos will give Rangers the attacking impetus they require to keep their Scottish Cup dreams alive against Kilmarnock.

The striker missed the goalless draw with St Johnstone on Saturday as he served the second match of his three-game ban.

His absence was costly for Steven Gerrard’s side as their Premiership title ambitions suffered a huge blow and now the Cup is their best chance of silverware this term.

Morelos is available to play at Ibrox tomorrow night and Durrant is pleased to have him back.

He said: “I remember the gaffer saying how do you handle the genius that was Gascoigne and he said you just let the genius be the genius. I’m not saying Morelos is a genius but you forget the age he is.

“You can’t change the other things he’s got but it’s happening too regularly and some of it’s pettiness. It’s costing him and it’s costing the team.

“Occasionally you’ll get through games with ten men but you’re talking three or four games out of six and it’s hard on the ten men that have to play without him.

“You’re seeing that now in the points that have been dropped when Morelos hasn’t been playing.

“When you lose key players, especially at a time when Rangers are in their infancy in terms of building a team, when you lose your marquee player, it puts the onus on others.

“It’s not the case that he owes Rangers a performance on Wednesday because he’s been their top scorer this year and pound for pound probably their best player.

“They’ll be hurting just now but it’ll be another massive game.

“They’ve got to turn up and they know now they can’t make another mistake, there’s no room for error if they want to put a challenge in the cup and in the league.”
