JAMES TAVERNIER reckons Rangers presented a united front in their win over Hearts.

The spotlight was on the Light Blues following a tumultuous week in the aftermath of their Old Firm defeat at Hampden.

But Graeme Murty’s side responded well as goals from Jason Cummings and Daniel Candeias earned them a 2-1 Ibrox win.

Boss Murty was without Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller after the pair were suspended following a dressing room row following the loss to Celtic.

Winger Candeias ran to the dugout to celebrate with Andy Halliday and the Gers substitutes when he netted.

And captain Tavernier was pleased to end a difficult few days on a high note and with a deserved Premiership win.

He said: “It is down to the boys. We have a good set of lads and we stick together.

“It has been a tough week but the boys have applied themselves great this week and it showed [on Sunday] how together we are.

“I think he (Candeias) was just running to the boys on the bench.

“We are a team, all of us are in it until the end.

“We want to work hard for each other and it proved it with the celebration with all the boys coming to celebrate with him. We were just happy to get the three points.”

Victory over Craig Levein’s side moved Rangers back up to second spot in the Premiership as they attempt to hold off Aberdeen and Hibernian in the race to be best of the rest this term.

It was a comfortable afternoon overall for the Light Blues and Tavernier was pleased to get back to winning ways at Ibrox.

He said: “It was very important to bounce back after the disappointment of last weekend.

“We knew we had to put things right. I thought we could have scored more goals and finished our chances but we were just happy to get three points.

“Patience was key. We knew we would get our chances.

“We created a few in the first half and we knew we were going to score. It was just key to keep that patience and keep probing.”
