SCOTT Donaldson could not wipe the smile off his face after securing the biggest win of his career by defeating world No 1 Mark Selby at the Betway UK Championship.

The 23-year-old came into the competition at the Barbican off the back of a 10-match losing streak but showed no fear to overcome the defending champion 6-3 in the second round.

After falling 2-0 behind in York, the Perth potter kept his composure to produce breaks of 90, 87 and 77 to go 5-3 up.

And Donaldson, who only won his first match of the season in the opening round, was able to finish the job with a break of 84. He admitted it doesn’t get much better than beating the world’s best.

“It’s probably the biggest of my career. In terms of player wise, it’s my biggest win,” he said. “My biggest turning point was the Welsh Open quarter-final victory last season over Zhou Yuelong, but in terms of the difficulty of the opponent, this match was massive.

“I had good chances on the balls and capitalised on it. He [Selby] doesn’t always give you chances and on another day he could have played out of his skin and I wouldn’t have had a look in.”

Stephen Maguire produced a ruthless display to also make it into the third round as he beat Jak Jones 6-0. The Glaswegian showed no mercy against the young Welshman, producing breaks of 111, 94, 93 and 89.
