BLAIR ALSTON reckons St Johnstone proved a point as well as earning one as they took home a share of the spoils from Ibrox on Saturday.

Tommy Wright’s side had lost five on the spin before making the trip to Glasgow but were well worthy of their rewards from a tight Premiership encounter.

Alston almost won it late on for the visitors as he chipped keeper Wes Foderingham but his effort came back off the bar as Rangers breathed a sigh of relief.

Alston said: “I seem to have a decent record of getting chances when I’m here.

“Previously I’ve been able to take them so it was disappointing that this one has not gone in.

“I was trying to get as much on it as I could. Unfortunately, I just put a wee bit too much on it and it was unlucky not to go in.

“Ultimately, the draw was good for us after the tough run we have been on. The boys did really well to get that.

“A lot got said about us, almost writing us off and how poor the run has been. But we have played Celtic three times and there is no shame in losing to them.

“We wish we had handled ourselves better in those games but when you lose to the team at the top of the league, it is not the worst. It’s not what we are defined by.

“The results we were disappointed with were the Hamilton one and maybe Hearts away, where we could maybe have got closer.

“It was about coming here and showing that we are not easily turned over. Last time we were here, we definitely were.

“So there was a lot of battling and we did well with the ball when we had it. If we had taken our chances, on another day it could have been different. But it is a good point for us after a tough run.”
