FINN Russell could be just one match away from ending his time at Glasgow Warriors, but the 25-year-old has already hinted at a return to Scotland when his contract with Racing 92 expires in 2021.
The Scotland stand-off, who is likely to be a key player as Warriors chase a PRO14 final berth when they tackle Scarlets on Friday, suggested he may end up back in Glasgow after his spell with the Paris super club.
“If I don’t learn French, maybe,” he joked, before adding: “If I go there and don’t like it, then that’s what it is, but at least I’ve gone there and tried it, and had that experience, and can always look back on it.
“And I’ll still be 28 when I finish up there, so still young enough that I can hopefully come back here and get a game.
“A lot of people say the first year is the hardest. There are a couple of others guys I know from playing against them and I met a few of the boys when I was last over so it seems good. It seems like a welcoming club. It won’t be the same as it is here but I am hoping after a while that it will become a second family like this club has.”
Russell, who joins Racing on a lucrative, seven-figure contract this summer, believes he has made the right move. However, he readily admits that Glasgow will always been seen as home.
“Definitely, I am always going to miss this club. It was the first club I started off at. I am going to miss that and at times I will wish I was back here but, at the same time, I am looking forward to seeing what it’s going to chuck at me over there.
“I think it will be quite good for me as well, as an individual outwith rugby, to go over there and challenge myself.”
