Hamish Watson was undergoing a scan yesterday that would reveal how long he is likely to be sidelined after suffering a suspected broken hand during Edinburgh’s pool clinching Champions Cup defeat of Montpellier on Friday.

The flanker is consequently expected to miss at least the first two matches of Scotland’s Six Nations Championship campaign which gets underway against Italy next week.

With three more members of the original 40-man training squad having picked up injuries at the weekend, Glasgow Warriors trio Sam Johnson (concussion), Jonny Gray (shoulder) and Ryan Wilson (shoulder), four additional players were invited to the camp at Oriam yesterday, their Glasgow Warriors team-mates Alex Dunbar, Rob Harley and Matt Smith, as well as Edinburgh’s Luke Crosbie, but assistant coach Mike Blair reckons they will all be fit for consideration.
